Food & Drink

Scotland has a cuisine all of its own and is often focused around traditional, unfussy and fresh produce. From the popular and renowned Burns Supper, the ever popular Haggis to the amazing organic and fresh farmed livestock and vegetation.

The West coast, particularly Kintyre has some wonderful places to eat in peaceful and picturesque settings, affording relaxation in an unhurried environment in most places.

For seafood lovers the West coast is premium seafood country, with fresh seafood landed almost daily in some parts. You will find that most hotels and restaurants throughout the summer and even winter months will have seafood on their menus catering for fish lovers and shellfish lovers alike.

A popular stopping point is the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, just outside Glasgow on the A83 however to experience the taste and the real fishing village environment you should continue on through Inveraray and on to Tarbert, Loch Fyne. Tarbert has a historic connection with the herring fishing industry dating back to the turbulent ringnetting days during the 1800s but you will not find fresher seafood elsewhere.

West Scotland is also the birth place of Scotland's only official Seafood Trail with a selection of quality eating places combined with comfortable accommodation which make up its members.

Westscotland.com reccommends - Dunvalanree (Carradale) and the Corner House Bistro (Tarbert, Loch Fyne).
